Water Safety Week! Here are the facts!
The weather is beautiful! Spring is here in Florida which means pools are open and calling our names. It also means we are outdoors more and before we know it…dare I say…. schools will be out for summer break!
Now is a great time to reevaluate our water safety plans at home and make sure we are prepared to keep our kids safe!
Why Water Safety? We have the power to prevent thousands of deaths and injuries and this week are going to talk about how! But first....The Scary FACTS:
Drownings cause 372,000 deaths per year worldwide.
Drowning and near drowning accidents account for approximately 4000 deaths, 8000 hospitalizations, and 31,000 emergency room visits each year in the US for children 0-19 years of age.
10 People in the US die each day from unintentional drownings.
Drowning is the leading cause of death in children 1-4years of age.
70% of drownings happen outside of swim time.
1 in 5 drowning related deaths are children under the age of 14.
