Sun Safety and our top sunscreen picks!

Spring is here and summer is quickly approaching! As you start planning your family pool and beach trips, it's important to remember to protect your little ones (and yourself) from the harmful effects of the sun. With that in mind, here are some sun safety and sunscreen tips to help you enjoy the sun while keeping your family safe!

  1. Seek shade:

When you're at the beach or out for a picnic, try to find a shady spot to set up camp. This will not only provide some relief from the heat, but it will also reduce your family's exposure to harmful UV rays.

  2. Cover up:

Clothing can be your first line of defense against the sun. Dress your family in lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that covers as much skin as possible. Don't forget hats and sunglasses too!

  3. Use sunscreen:

Sunscreen is a must for any outdoor activity. Look for a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays, and has an SPF of at least 50. Apply it generously and reapply every two hours or after swimming or sweating.

  4. Choose the right sunscreen:

There are so many different types of sunscreen out there, so it's important to choose one that works for your family's needs. If your little ones have sensitive skin, look for a mineral-based sunscreen with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. If you'll be in the water, choose a water-resistant sunscreen that won't wash off easily.

  5. Make it fun

Getting your kids to put on sunscreen can be a challenge, but making it fun can help! Let them choose their own sunscreen with their favorite character on it, or make it into a game by having them help each other apply it.

  6. Keep Sunscreen available:

Have Sunscreen right by the back door so its easy to find and apply! Keep extra in your car and purse. Don’t forget to throw a bottle in your kiddo’s sports bags!

Remember, sun safety is important all year round, not just in the summer. By following these tips and being mindful of your family's sun exposure, you can enjoy the outdoors and keep your loved ones safe and healthy!
